The Bank for International Settlements(BIS) is owned by central banks of representing countries from around the world. Its head office is in Basel, Switzerland. BIS act as a bank for central banks to foster international cooperation in area of monetary and financial stability. The BIS  was created in 1930 at the Hague Conference. A convention for establishment of the BIS was signed between Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom on the one hand and Switzerland on the other.

BIS member Voting
Central banks and monetary authorities are currently members of the BIS and have rights of voting and representation at General Meetings

Board of Directors​
The Board may have up to 18 members, including six ex officio Directors, comprising the central bank Governors of Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States. The Board elects a Chairman and elect a Vice-Chairman from among its members, each for a three-year term.
