Indian Navy with Indonesian Navy from 30th July 2021 to 31 July 2021. The 36th edition of INDIA – INDONESIA COORDINATED PATROL(CORPAT) between India and Indonesia witness participation of Maritime Patrol Aircraft from both nations. The exercise, being conducted as a ‘non-contact, at sea only’ exercise in view of COVID-19 pandemic, highlights the high degree of mutual trust and confidence, synergy and cooperation between the two friendly navies.

The 12th edition of exercise maritime exercise between Indian Navy and Russian Navy was held in the Baltic Sea from 28th July to 29th July 2021. Exercise INDRA NAVY-21, being conducted despite the constraints imposed by the pandemic, enables further strengthen mutual confidence, inter-operability and enable sharing of best practices between both Navies. The exercise is another milestone in strengthening cooperation between the two navies and reinforce the long-standing bond of friendship between the two countries.

The missile hit the target in direct attack mode and destroyed it with precision. The missile is incorporated with state-of-the-art Miniaturized Infrared Imaging Seeker along with advanced avionics. The test brings the development of indigenous third generation man portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile.

About Project-75(I) Project-75(I) envisages indigenous construction of six modern conventional submarines. This would provide a major boost to the indigenous design and construction capability of submarines in India, in addition to bringing in the latest submarine design and technologies as part of the project. Indian Navy accepted the first two of its MH-60R Multi Role Helicopters (MRH) from US on 16 Jul 21. The Indian Navy is procuring 24 of these Multi Role Helicopters (MRH) helicopters manufactured by Lockheed Martin under foreign military sales from the US government at an estimated cost of $2.4 billion.

India is participated in the multi-national maritime exercise Cutlass Express 2021 (CE 21), being conducted from 26th Jul 2021 to 6th Aug 2021 in Kenya. Exercise Cutlass Express is designed to improve regional cooperation, maritime domain awareness and information sharing practices to increase capabilities between the U.S., East African and Western Indian Ocean nations to counter illicit maritime activity in the Western Indian Ocean. The first production lot of 12 Short Span Bridging System (SSBS)-10 m designed and developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is inducted into Indian Army. The SSBS-10 m plays a crucial role of bridging the gaps up to 9.5 m as a single span providing a 4 m wide, fully decked roadway, ensuring faster movement of the troops.

7th Edition Host Country : France The 7th edition of Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), a biennial event, was hosted by the French Navy at La Reunion from 28th June to 1st July 2021. IONS Seeks to enhance maritime cooperation among Navies of the littoral states of the Indian Ocean region(IOR) by providing an open and inclusive forum for discussion of regionally relevant maritime issues that would lead to common understanding on the way ahead. The symposium was first held in 2008 with India as host. Sources : PIB Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight tested a New Generation Nuclear Capable Ballistic Missile Agni P from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam island off the coast of Odisha on 28th June 2021. Agni P is a new generation advanced variant of Agni class of missiles. It is a canisterised missile with range capability between 1,000 and 2,000 kms. The Agni-P will enter service as a two-stage, solid propellant missile. Both stages will have composite rocket motors and guidance systems with electro-mechanical actuators.

European Union(EU) and India conducted a joint naval exercise from 18-19 June 2021 in the Gulf of Aden. The exercise was based on the scenario of an anti-piracy operation. It included cross-deck helicopter landings, complex tactical evolutions at sea, live firing, a night-time joint patrol and a naval parade in the high seas off the coast of Somalia.

The 31st edition of India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT) between the Indian Navy and the Royal Thailand Navy is conducted from 09 – 11 June 2021. Towards reinforcing maritime links between the two countries and with an aim of keeping this vital part of the Indian Ocean safe and secure for international trade, the two navies have been undertaking CORPAT bi-annually along their International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) since 2005.

The induction of ‘322 Dega Flight’ was held on 7th June 2021 in INS Dega. With the induction of these helicopters got a major boost towards enhancing the capabilities of the force in pursuit of the maritime interests of the nation. These helicopters, built by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd as part of “Atma Nirbhar Bharat”. Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan On 12 May 2020, Prime Minister of India raised a call to the nation giving a kick start to the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan (Self-reliant India campaign). Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan or Self-reliant India campaign is the vision of new India with the aim to make the country and its citizens self-reliant in all senses. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting under the Chairmanship of Ministry of Defence on 4th June 2021 has approved proposals concerning for construction of six Conventional Submarines under Project P75(I) under the Strategic Partnership (SP) Model. This project envisages indigenous construction of six conventional submarines equipped with the state-of-the-art Air Independent Propulsion system at an estimated cost of Rs 43,000 crore. This would be one of the largest ‘Make in India’ projects and will serve to facilitate faster and more significant absorption of technology and create a tiered industrial ecosystem for submarine construction in India.

In November 2019, the Defence Acquisition Council, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, approved the procurement of the long-range maritime surveillance aircraft manufactured by Boeing. This proposed sale of an additional six P-8I aircraft will allow the Indian Navy to expand its maritime surveillance aircraft (MSA) capability.

The aircraft plays a crucial role in being the eyes of the Indian Navy and carrying out critical maritime operations. They provide India's maritime warriors a significant edge in the strategically important Indian Ocean region. The P-8I is not just responsible for coastal patrolling but is also used for other critical missions like search-and-rescue, anti-piracy, and supporting operations of other arms of the military. The nine days exercise started on the 4th April 2021 to commemorate the birth centenary of Bangladesh Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and mark glorious 50 years of liberation. The theme of the exercise is "Robust Peace Keeping Operations".
Indian Navy participated in multi-lateral maritime exercise La Pérouse, being conducted in the Eastern Indian Ocean Region from 5th to 7th April 2021. The exercise La Pérouse, led by French Navy, has participation by French Navy (FN), Royal Australian Navy (RAN), Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) and United States Navy (USN) during the three day exercise at sea.
For better integration between the Army, the Navy and the Air Force on 2nd April 2021 operationalised the third Joint Logistics Node (JLN) in Mumbai. The Joint Logistics Node (JLN) will provide integrated logistics cover to the armed forces for their small arms ammunition, rations, fuel, general stores, civil hired transport, aviation clothing, spares and also engineering support in an effort to synergise their operational efforts.

Missile type : Fire and forget Anti-Tank Guided Missiles Joint User Trials for Helina (Army Version) and Dhruvastra (Air Force Version) Missile Systems have been carried out from Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) platform in desert ranges. The missile systems have been designed and developed indigenously by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Fire and Forget Anti-Tank Guided Missiles Fire-and-forget is a type of missile guidance which does not require further guidance after launch such as illumination of the target or wire guidance, and can hit its target without the launcher being in line-of-sight of the target. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14/02/2021 handed over the indigenous main battle tank Arjun Mk-1A to the Indian Army. Arjun Main Battle Tank designed and developed by Chennai-based Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE), a unit of the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO).
About Arjun Main Battle Tank The Arjun Main Battle Tank project was initiated by DRDO in 1972 with the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE) as its lead laboratory. The objective was to create a “state-of-the-art tank with superior fire power, high mobility, and excellent protection”. Mass production began in 1996 at the Indian Ordnance Factory’s production facility in Avadi, Tamil Nadu.
About Arjun Mk-1A The Mk-1A version has 14 major upgrades on the earlier version. It is also supposed to have missile firing capability as per the design, but this feature will be added later as final testing of the capability is still on. However, the biggest achievement with the latest version is 54.3 per cent indeginous content against the 41 per cent in the earlier model. Missile type : Surface-to-Air Missile Final production batch of Surface to Air Missiles (LRSAM), designed and developed by DRDO in collaboration with various industry partner integrated by BDL, was flagged off on 14 Feb 2021. About Long Range Surface to Air Missiles (LRSAM) LRSAM is jointly developed by DRDO and IAI Israel to equip latest ships of Indian Navy. MRSAM surface-to-air missile is powered by a dual-pulse solid propulsion system.The weapon has the ability to engage multiple targets simultaneously at ranges of 70km. This LRSAM Missile system can provide point and area defence against various aerial targets including fighter aircraft, subsonic & supersonic cruise missiles. LRSAM system end to end performance has been successfully demonstrated through number of user flight trials from Indian Naval ships. This weapon system has been successfully productionised and has been delivered to Indian Navy. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) launched two new products during Aero India- 2021 - the “Dishani” and “Garudastra”.
